Amanda Jolly is the Co-Director of Bands in Valley Center, KS, a suburb located just north of Wichita. At the high school, she directs the Wind Ensemble, one of two concert ensembles, and jointly oversees other aspects of the band program, including marching band, pep band, middle school concert band, and 5th grade beginning band, where she specializes in teaching the woodwind classes. The Wind Ensemble and other groups have consistently earned I and/or Superior Ratings under her leadership the past eight years. Ms. Jolly is a Kansas native, but spent time growing up in Indiana, where she marched with the Northview High School Marching Knights, consistent Class B state finalists under the direction of Mr. Bob Medworth. She is an alumni of Kansas State University, where she graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Music Education with a dual emphasis in voice and instrumental music. She studied voice with Dr. Reginald Pittman, flute with Dr. Mary Lee Cochran, and conducting with Dr. Frank Tracz, Director of Bands. In her time at K-State, she participated in the opera program, with a leading role in “Too Many Sopranos.” She also served as the piccolo player in the Kansas State University Wind Ensemble, principal flute in the Orchestra, and as Drum Major for the Pride of Wildcat Land, the Kansas State University Marching Band. At K-State, Ms. Jolly earned awards such as “Most Inspiring Member of the KSUMB” and was the winner of the annual aria contest, where soloists performed with the Kansas State University Orchestra.
Prior to teaching in Valley Center, Ms. Jolly taught middle school band for one year at Fort Riley Middle School, on the Fort Riley Army Base, and was the Director of Bands and Choir for one year in Kingman, KS. Her professional affiliations include Tau Beta Sigma and the Kansas Music Educators Association. In 2015 she received a Shining Star Award from Valley Center, which the district awards to teachers nominated for excellence in teaching.
Ms. Jolly lives in Wichita, KS with her husband, Nick, two year son Henry, and their two pups, Cooper and Douggie!
